It Came from the Desert
It Came from the Desert is a legendary cross-genre phenomenon from Cinemaware.
A mysterious meteorite is falling near the town of Lizard Breath. Geologist Greg Bradley comes to this outback to find and study it, but things take a mysterious turn. In the mines near the city, strange horrors begin to happen: here and there, victims of unknown or decapitated cows, or mysterious traces of an unknown form and origin are found melted with acid ...
Dr. Bradley will have to find out what happened here - and we will help him in this. Although the game begins as a simple quest, built on a timely selection of the answer, it quickly reveals its true essence when it is revealed that all the ants are to blame ... (not a spoiler - just take a look at the cover!).
Bradley is free to do what he wants to - flirt with girls from the local population (be prepared for the fact that local hooligans will beat you for this and arrange a very interactive stabbing!), Argue until you turn blue with the guards about the need for evacuation, and personally walk around the places of appearance creatures, - and shoot back / throw grenades / annealed with a flamethrower from them as necessary and move along the arsenal curve ...
Or negotiate with the authorities and organize an armed rebuff. Summon an army. Drive away corn, pour insecticide into the pollination system and water the creatures from the air.
Time in the game is inexorable: no matter what you do, it does not just flow - it flies! If you lose a knife fight or have an accident during a meeting with road hooligans (in the no less interactive mini-game "whoever turns off the road first, he loses"), you will be taken to the hospital. And there they will keep you for weeks if you fail to escape (also an interactive process). But in the meantime, ants can gobble up the whole city to hell ...
Insanely addictive and sometimes genuinely scary, It Came ... is obviously inspired by category B films of the sixties - all the style is there. The non-linearity of the plot, depending on your quickness and luck in persuading those in power, leads to the dissimilarity of just EVERY game part to the previous ones. Breakthrough of mini-games (you can count at your leisure ... here the elements of Dune 1, Operation Wolf, classic quests, some Alien Breed, Street Rod, and even SHMUPs are woven together) only adds excitement to the process.
The plot is complicated by human conflicts - there are gang groups in the city, and a small cult, and ordinary citizens will start to go crazy when critters climb outside ... And then there’s a presenter from a local radio station with whom you can twist romance; and a lesbian starlet who fled from Hollywood to avoid scandal, settling in our house; a local student who helps us hard and who also has to be saved from threats ...
Summary. Play to everyone who loves such films. Anyone who has never played games from Cinemaware, because the best representative. Anyone who played because you know it's worth it. And, yes, everyone who does not believe that in the EGA palette you can draw beautiful girls against the backdrop of the desert and giant ants.
