Mancala

Mancala is not just one game but a family of board games that share a similar structure and gameplay, with variations in rules depending on the region or community. These games often involve distributing seeds, stones, or beans among various pits or holes in a board, with the objective of capturing the opponent's pieces.

How to Play Mancala:

1. Setup: The Mancala board consists of two rows, each with six holes or pits. There are also two larger pits at either end known as the "Mancalas." Each player owns one row and one Mancala. The game starts with an equal number of stones or beads (typically four or six) placed in each of the smaller pits.

2. Objective: The goal of the game is to collect as many beads in your Mancala as possible.

3. Playing: Players take turns picking up all the beads from one of their pits and distributing them, one at a time, into the following pits in a counter-clockwise direction. If the last bead ends in their own Mancala, they get another turn. If the last bead ends in an empty pit on their side, they capture all the beads from the opponent's opposite pit.

4. Endgame: The game ends when all the pits on one side of the board are empty. The player with the most beads in their Mancala wins.

Mancala games have been played for centuries across different continents and cultures, from Africa to the Middle East, Asia, the Caribbean, and even parts of Europe. Different cultures have their own variations, names, and rules for the game. For instance, in West Africa, it's often referred to as "Oware," while in India, it's known as "Pallanguzhi."
