Star Command: Revolution

Star Command: Revolution is not a must have or a must play game, but it's still worth taking a little time to explore this space RTS. Some will enjoy the scale of the world and freedom of conquest, while others will enjoy a solid set of techniques for online battles.

It doesn’t spoil originality. In a distant, distant galaxy, Zeta reigned peace. From the prologue, we learn that a certain powerful energy resource, “Solinite,” was found, and so it was the reason for the contention. No one remembers how it all began. Historians are leaning towards a short dialogue version:

- Sorry, what are you getting here?
- My dear, fly by!

In the chaos of the war, a certain commander Narvik (Narvek) wanted to conquer the galaxy. However, a group of Earth rebels, forming the Star Command, stood in his way. They challenged Narvik and his henchmen. The revolution has begun!

The game has classic modes: campaign, sandbox and multiplayer. Moreover, the campaign provides for the passage of two. However, in this mode, saving is not provided.

Each new level of the campaign the player appears in some part of the map, surrounded by the "fog of war". Tasks do not differ in variety. As a rule, it all comes down to "find and destroy." In the launch mission, for example, a group of rebels will have to destroy the "Megaphone installation" Earthlings. The level target slips in the information bar at the top of the screen. When it is completed, you will see a green inscription “complete”.

Local space does not shine with variations: there are decorative planets and chains of asteroids that block the path. It looks drawn. Connoisseurs of antiquity will like it. Also at the edges of the map are hyper transitions between sectors. Green drives indicate active transitions, red drives inactive. You can move along them in both directions, that is, if the player has left resources somewhere, he can return there at any time and collect them. A mini-map switched by a mouse helps to navigate. In galactic mode, it shows the sectors traveled, the current location and zones of influence of a particular race. Based on this, the player himself can choose a strategy: whether to launch the war against the Nomads seriously or to keep in tone all the races, making sorties? Or, without touching anyone, by rebel forces to attack Narvik himself? Boldly! But then you have to go through the Computrons, in the space of which the earth's resource is a rarity. Will the blitzkrieg succeed against them? Enough fleet maintenance supplies? Or maybe first take control of the resources of the earth sector and accumulate fat? The dilemma is enough. You decide them - the head of the "Star Command".

The fighting in the game takes place in space surroundings. Compared to other RTSs, ships are vehicles, droids are infantry, and stations are buildings. The basis of everything is the mothership. He acts as a resource collector, builder and at the same time is necessary for the study of new technologies. He is the only one who can move between sectors. You can’t lose the womb-ship - this is the end of the game. When the Mothership is not busy with construction, it should be located next to the university of the race whose technology you want to study. The rest of the time, as a harvester should be, a priceless ship grazes “in the field”, collecting resources. There are five of them in the game: one for each race and a common resource - the ill-fated Solanaite. You can get it from the wreckage on the battlefields or from an energy clot, which can only be exploded by a reconnaissance ship. Each race has its own name, but everyone has a Target Solinite on the list of skills.

The collected "goodies" go to the construction of ships, droids and stations. They are produced instantly: click - and the combat unit is waiting for an order. However, it will not work to stamp troops at the pace of the conveyor - a delay has been set for construction. And the more expensive the combat unit, the longer it will take to wait until the circle in the lower left corner turns green again.

The game implements pumping ships. It is conducted up to level 7, improves their parameters and gives new opportunities. Up to the fourth level, crews can cool off at the base, taking courses in basic military training at the nearest university. But they can become "space wolves" only in real battles! Military equipment has four main parameters: “shield” (shield), “tech” (tech), “engine” (engine), “control” (control).

  • Shield - protects the unit. If the indicator is zero, any hit on the ship becomes fatal.
  • Tech - management systems. A decrease in this indicator reduces the rate of fire. Falling to zero destroys the unit even with a shield.
  • Engine - is responsible for the speed of movement of a combat unit.
  • Control - when the value is zero, any shot into the ship transfers him to the side of the one whose hit was the last.

The individual capabilities of the ship can be viewed by clicking on it with the left mouse button. Then on the left side of the screen you will see not only the main indicators of the ship, but also its special means.

Now let's get acquainted with the famous inhabitants of the Zeta galaxy.

  1. Earthlings (Terrans). Where to without us? In the campaign, the Earth rebels are the player’s starting forces. It can be seen in the blood of people - to buzz and arrange revolutions. Residents of the Earth specialize in attack indicators "Control". For example, their StarCon station sends a landing shuttle, which greatly reduces this figure for the attacked enemy. Earthlings support ships repair damage to the Techs, and Switcher class ships instantly swap places with other friendly ships, excluding aircraft carriers. Earthlings also have a Target target station, firing at which military units can be pumped to the maximum without risking themselves in dangerous battles.
  2. Computrons. A race based on artificial intelligence. They specialize in attacking the Tech index and restore the shields of friendly ships. Friendly units, except aircraft carriers, can teleport using the Teleport gate. Their Reflex Weapon ships simultaneously fire at all enemy targets within reach, and the Foldspacer ships hit the shields sensitively and curl up the space, moving to any visible part of the screen. In addition to this, the race produces Scrambler droids that cannot be attacked by enemy stations (such as stationary weapons).
  3. Nomads. Nomads specialize in attacking shields and repairing engines. Their “workhorse" is the Point Laser air defense ship, which shoots missiles and damages enemy fighters, forcing them to return to the aircraft carrier. Also noteworthy weapons are the Bomb station, which, when self-blowing, severely damages all ships nearby. The Torpedo Launcher station launches a torpedo in any visible part of the screen and inflicts heavy damage to the ships located there. Nomads also produce Bomb Droid. These droids are not suicidal, but after their destruction they damage enemy units around.
  4. Triuverites. Creatures whose three heads are separated from the body and placed in soaring cans. Engines are a favorite target for attack. Able to restore “Control” of friendly units. Their high-tech Cloaker ships are invisible on the minimap and, when pumped to level 7, will cause the enemy a lot of trouble. Triumvirates own unique Omni Fighter fighters, which are not capable of harming the laser fire of the Point Laser air defense ship. Fortunately for Nomads, Omni Fighters are based only on fixed platforms. The Triumvirate Repair Matrix station emits energy to any visible part of the screen to fix all the indicators of friendly ships and even slightly increases the allowable maximum. The Scrambler droids of Komputron were answered by the Evaser droids, which can only be attacked by other droids or stations, which turns them into a real nightmare for enemy ships.

Summarizing

The game will seem prolonged - there are 31 star systems in the galaxy, and the levels, although they do not take much time, are not encouraged by the special variety. There are no complaints about the graphics: despite the lack of visual depth of space and the units “crawling” on a two-dimensional map, you will see a good animation. There will be “juicy” hits and explosions that smash the ships to shreds.

You should not expect villainy from a computer adversary. He is honest with the player, although he uses the tactic of luring - feel for yourself how humiliating it is to be an AI from Warcraft 2!
